Women flex financial muscle

When you think of your health and well-being, you may think first about your blood pressure or your cholesterol level. But a group of women in Rehoboth are meeting to discuss their financial well-being.
Bell Rock Capital LLC puts on free financial health seminars for women throughout the year.
The focus is to help women close the wage gap. In Delaware as of 2015, the gap, according to fightforfairpay.org, was 85 cents to a dollar compared to men.
The meeting aims to get women to be more aggressive financially, investing in stocks rather than the classic bonds or cash that don't keep up with inflation.
Sussex County is seeing an influx in baby boomers moving to the region, making it critical to bridge the gap between working years and their golden years.
"They need to figure out a way to bridge the gap between either being 62 when social security will kick in, being 65 when they're eligible for Medicare. Healthcare, of course, is a wild card right now, so we try to encourage and provide ways for women to save for health care costs," said senior financial advisor Janet Redman.
We are told these seminars are important for women, as 90 percent of women will be solely in charge of their own finances at some point in their lives.
