Shoebox Christmas Drive

Churches along Virginia's Eastern shore are collecting shoe boxes full of gifts all in an effort to give kids across the world a happy holiday.

It's called Operation Christmas Child.

It's part of a bigger operation called the Samaritan's Purse charity effort which is hoping to help 12 million kids.

Organizers here on the Shore are hoping to get  5,000 shoe boxes collected by November 20th.

The churches have been helping out with this holiday campaign for almost a decade and want to get more participation than ever before according to Jane Wilson.

"The Operation Christmas Child arm does shoeboxes that we pack with gifts for children all over the world and they go to many many countries. Its a way to give presents and have presents in that country for children that otherwise never would receive any kind of gift."

The boxes *must* be dropped off by November 20th at a participating church.

Those churches are:

  • Onancock Baptist Church 757-787-4348
  • Union Baptist Church 757-336-5018
  • Exmore Baptist Church 757-442-9491
  • Trinity UMC 757-331-2564

For more info on the drive, you can call any of the churches listed above.
