Sheriff’s office warns public of local phone scam
Someone impersonating a Sheriff's Lieutenant is trying to prey on the residents of Wicomico County.
Lt. Tim Robinson says that the person responsible is making phone calls and has been for the last 48 hours.
Once on the line, this subject claims to be Lt. James Carey from the Civil division at the sheriff's office and makes a request for information.
The big problem here is that Lt. Carey does not exist and that's why investigators need your help to track this person down.
"We're warning people that if they get this message from someone identifying themselves as Lt. Carey of the civil division don't return that phone call because we don't know what kind of information somebody might be searching for," says Lt. Robinson.
The sheriff's office is asking the public to call if they are contacted by the person claiming to be Lt. Carey, you can reach investigators at 410-548-4891.
