Shelter hosts Home For The Pawlidayz

On this Thanksgiving Eve many on Delmarva are getting ready for a long weekend of shopping.  Many will be hitting the stores to find great deals, but in Georgetown, an animal shelter is offering their own Black Friday deal.

The Georgetown Brandywine Valley SPCA Campus is hosting an event to help unite shelter animals with their forever home, in an event called, 'Home for the Pawlidayz.'

"Unconditional love, no judgment, and free of charge, just for Friday, Saturday and Sunday," says Shelter Manager Chris Farrall.

The adoption fees are waved on puppies, kittens, small dogs, or any animal available at the shelter this weekend.

For families looking at adopting or thinking about adopting, this can mean big savings.

"If you factor in everything our pets have had done medically, they're up to date on their vaccines, they've been microchipped, they've been spayed and neutered, heartworm tested.  All of those things, just to have your pet at a private vet and get those services, you're talking about hundreds of dollars," says Farrall.

And unlike a game console, a television or other Black Friday favorites, going to the campus in Georgetown can be the best gift of all.

"It's a gift to the pet as well. So there's hundreds and hundreds and thousands of dogs and cats that are entering shelters everyday, and to give one a home, which opens up space in the shelter for the dogs and cats that are constantly coming in.  So it's a gift to the human receiving the gift and a gift to the pet finding it's forever home," says Farrall.

The Home for the Pawlidayz events lasts through Sunday.  The Brandywine Valley Georgetown SPCA hours are 12-7 on Friday, and 10-5 on Saturday and Sunday.
