One million dollars pegged for Princess Anne wastewater project

A project in Princess Anne to help its infrastructure and the environment has been approved for a $1 million grant, announced by the Maryland Board of Public Works Wednesday.
The announcement is part of $3.8 million public works project designed to help clean the regions water and the Chesapeake Bay.
The Princess Anne Wastewater Treatment Plant energy project is part of the Department of Environment's initiative focused on combining clean water and clean energy.
The money will toward upgrading pumps and other equipment at the plant to reduce energy consumption.
Officials with the Department of Environment say that the combination of clean energy and water can create incredible environmental benefits.
"A lot of people might not know this, but up to a third of the nitrogen pollution in the bay and local waterways comes from air pollution. If you reduce energy consumption and use clean energy, you're going to have cleaner water," said Jay Apperson, with the Office of Communications with the Department of Environment.
