Local politician calls for better background checks

With more information coming out about the Texas shooter Devin Kelley, local politicians are asking for better documented background checks of criminals.
Kelley, who we've learned had an aggressive and violent past in the Air Force and in his home life leaves several questions on how these warning signs weren't documented.
Sen. Tim Kaine says this event only further reveals the need for better background checks.
"The more comprehensive background check you have the more you can keep weapons away from those that federal law has determined should not have weapons. We need to have the most comprehensive record check system, we need to have this data introduced into the NIC system to protect against incidents like this," says Sen. Kaine.
Once the Air Force finishes their investigation into how this happened, Kaine says we need to re-evaluate all our U.S. departments and take a look at how to document people the states deem dangerous.
