Eastern Shore local, Alex Azar, nominated to serve on President Donald Trump's cabinet
An Eastern Shore local could end up serving in President Donald Trump's cabinet.
Today, the President tweeting out that he's nominating Alex Azar II to become the nations' next Health and Human Services Secretary, or the HHS.
Azar graduated from Parkside High School and has spent the last 15 years in health care.
Part of that time he served as deputy secretary for the HHS.
Azar spoke at UMES last year on business and personal success.
47 ABC spoke to the professor, James Bresette, who coordinated the visit and had worked with Azar in the past.
Bresette says the fact Azar chose to speak at UMES shows a lot about how he feels about the area.
"I think that speaks a lot to his character and his belief of the Eastern Shore that this is the land that raised me, let me give something back," Bresette tells 47 ABC.
Azar's nomination comes after former HHS secretary Tom Price resigned back in September during an investigation about his use of taxpayer funds to allegedly use charter jets.
