Worcester County continues opioid battle

The opioid epidemic is one that affects the entire nation, but one county on Delmarva, is part of an exclusive group getting some help from the government.

Worcester County is one of ten counties, nationally, to receive a 3-year  $250-thousand federal grant to help fight the crisis.

With the money, they hope to provide a mobile team for patients and those suffering from addiction, giving them hope and resources to get sober and stay sober.

"We're going to be using the peer recovery support model and care coordination model to encourage people to get engaged and into treatment, to outreach and educate families and friends and loved ones of people who need treatment," said Kat Gunby, Program Director of The Prevention Services Unit at the Worcester County Health Department.

They also say they will implement programs to help end the stigma that comes with addiction and treatment.
