Wicomico County cell phone emergency alerts

Wicomico County is taking steps to make sure you know when an emergency could be in your area by using your cellphone.

The county announced people can now sign up to receive emergency alerts.

They say this is just one way they can better inform the public of whats happening during emergency situations like hurricanes and tornados in real time.

Director of Wicomico Countys Emergency Services, David Shipley, says, A voluntary evacuation scenario that could be potentially associated with a hurricane planning event, but we also support law enforcement when they are looking for a lost child, someone with disabilities who has wondered off and it can also be for a barricade situation where they would want people to shelter in place.”

In order to receive these emergency alerts on your cell phone, all you have to do is register online on the County's emergency services website and click on the tab Sign Up for Cell Phone Emergency Alerts.
