Special education meetings in Indian River district

Although we're just over a month into the new school year on Delmarva one district is already planning for 2018.
The Indian River School district in Delaware is holding two sessions in an effort to find more ways to improve special education programs.
The district has done this before and say its been so well-received that they are doing it again.
Parents and other members of the community are invited to come out and give input on November 1st at Howard T. Ennis School and again on February 28th at Indian River High.
Officials, like Dr. Heather Statler with the board of education say it put schools in touch with what students need.
"We've had growth in our special education. You know its a very evolving field as well and requires us to be very responsive. I think this is one of the ways that we are being responsive by making sure that we understand what families and parents what is most concerning to them."
Statler says *18* percent of the students in the district and that number continues to grow according to officials.
The school system held similar seminars last year and was able to publish a 60-page report detailing the recommendations from community stakeholders.
