Residents pitch in to clean up Wicomico River

Some residents started their weekends by participating in a massive clean-up campaign in Salisbury for the Wicomico River.

The river cleanup is part of an effort organized by the Salisbury-area Chamber of Commerce.

This is not the first time the organization has worked to tidy up the river and surrounding areas.  One of the organizers says the river has come a long way, but there's still lots of work to do.

Jenni Pastusak, with chamber community outreach, says citizens can do their part by throwing away, or recycling their cans, bottles and plastic bags.

"This is our downtown.  We have so much commerce on the water, recreational opportunities on the water, and honestly, we need to take good care of it.  And I think our community knows that and sees that, and is making strides to keep it cleaner."

If you want to help clean the Wicomico River, call the Salisbury Chamber of Commerce at 410.749.0144, and ask for the beautification committee.
