Rescued Seaford dogs begin going up for adoption

Just two weeks ago, more than 30 dogs arrived at the Brandywine Valley SPCA Georgetown Campus in gruesome condition. They were rescued from horrific conditions at a Seaford home.

Now those dogs are beginning to get back on their paws, and some are even going up for adoption this weekend.

Walter Fenstermacher, the Director of Operations for the Brandywine Valley SPCA said, "Most of them were severely emaciated. Some of them did have fleas, severe dehydration, so it's really been a struggle for them but a long road and a lot of them are doing very well."

Some of those dogs are now doing so well that they are being placed up for adoption!

Fenstermacher said, "So we're going to have three pets going up for adoption this weekend. We have Gracie, Cooper and Mya."

"Gracie and Mya, the two smaller dogs, are a little bit more outgoing. Cooper is the standard poodle, but he is a little more reserved so we're looking for the right home that can really bring out his personality," Fenstermacher added.

As for the rest of the rescued dogs at the shelter, many of them are still recovering.

Fenstermacher said, "So it is really going to depend on each of the pets individually so we hope that we have some others that recover in the coming weeks that we can again spay, neuter and place for adoption but it's going to be a few more weeks for the worst of the pets."

The Brandywine Valley SPCA is now trying to raise $20,000 to help them give the neglected dogs the help they need. Fenstermacher said, "So that's vet visits, the medications, the vaccinations, the examinations, the blood work, so there is a lot of diagnostics that are involved with pets that come to us in these conditions so the funds that are raised are going directly towards the fate of these pets."

If you are interested in meeting Gracie, Mya or Cooper, they will all be up for adoption starting Saturday, October 21st.
