Perdue serves up antibiotic free chicken at Wicomico Co. Public Schools

For the first time Wednesday, Wicomico County Public Schools (WCPS) served antibiotic free chicken in its cafeterias.

It was all thanks to a local celebrity, Jim Perdue from Perdue Chicken.

WCPS said Wednesday was an example of supporting local economies, while also connecting children and communities with the source of their food.

One parent says Perdue's actions have sparked interesting conversations around the dinner table about where our food comes from.

And one 5th grader at North Salisbury Elementary told 47 ABC she's excited to see the change in her school lunches.

"There's a lot of things people don't know about in antibiotics so getting rid of it in most of our food that we eat like chicken is a really big thing," said Kaeli Klos.

The students were also able to share what they learned through online research on the importance of meat being raised without antibiotics.
