Officials: Over 70 neglected animals found; 32 rescued from Seaford property

According to the Delaware Department of Health and Social Services, over 70 neglected animals were found at a property, where 32 animals were rescued, in Seaford.

Delaware DHSS says on Sunday, the Division of Public Delaware Office of Animal Welfare received a tip about a property in the Seaford area with neglected animals. After visiting the site and receiving a search warrant, officials say the state's animal control and cruelty enforcement unit, Delaware Animal Services (DAS), found approximately 43 dead dogs and took into custody 32 other animals, including 31 dogs and a cat.

According to DHSS, multiple animals taken into custody needed emergency veterinary care and one had to be euthanized. The surviving animals are being cared for at the Brandywine Valley SPCA's Georgetown campus.

This is an ongoing investigation and charges will be forthcoming.

Anyone with information related to this case is asked to call the Office of Animal Welfare at  302-255-4646. The Division of Public Health would like to thank Brandywine SPCA, the Seaford Fire Department and the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control for their support at the home site.
