Ocean City may purchase old VFW hall

Ocean City may buy the old VFW hall on 66th street and turn the land into a new water treatment plant.

The project won't be completed for a least a few years if city council approves the purchase.

The land acquisition carries a price tag of about $750,000 dollars according to a proposal presented to council earlier this month.

City leaders say one of the older plants is landlocked which means they can't expand on that property.

Mayor Rich Meehan says the new plant is necessary and may eventually lead to at least one of the other treatment facilities being shutdown.

"So it adds to the value of that property for the town if ocean city. And moving forward at some time in the next 5 years as we look to develop that property it will also allow is at some point in the near future to decommission the plant on 44th street."

The money for the purchase and construction of the plant will come from the water fund.

City council is expected to approve the measure.
