No spare: One third of 2017 models are sold without spare tires

According to a new report from AAA Mid Atlantic, about a third of 2017 vehicles don't have a spare tire or donut.
The problem is that most folks don't even know until its too late.
Car companies have started keeping the spare out of the trunk to try to meet fuel standards.
AAA is encouraging drivers to ask about a spare before they buy a car.
Just last year, the company was called out to help about 450,000 people who caught a flat but didn't have a spare.
Local auto expert, like Shawn Smith, say one of the best things to do is to be clear on what you're getting with your new car.
"Absolutely, anytime you're buying a vehicle, its known to be the second most important investment next to a house. So you always want to make sure you know and clarify exactly what you're getting. Especially when it comes to accessories and saftey items as far as tires."
Smith says this change affects passenger vehicles. He says trucks still come with a full size spare, which is usually located underneath the vehicle.
Smith recommends doing a 32-point inspection which will let you know when you're tire tread is low and might blow.
