New campaign launched to protect Assateague horses

It's getting cooler so beach season is coming to a close, but it appears it is not slowing down visitors from coming out to Assateague Island National Seashore.
Officials from the Assateague Island Alliance are working to make sure the wild horses stay safe, which is why they rolled out a new campaign called 'A Fed Horse is A Dead Horse'. The purpose of it is to educate visitors of the dangers of feeding horses.
The group is taking steps to install wildlife-proof picnic tables, pass out cooler straps, as well as repair fencing on campgrounds to protect horses from eating the wrong things.
"The reason why they are doing it is because we have a problem with human and horse interaction, especially when it comes to food. The horses have gotten colic in the past and one horse unfortunate passed away this year," says Ashlie Kozlowski, the Assateague Island Outreach Coordinator.
This campaign is for the national side of the park, butt the hope is to eventually expand it to the state side as well.
