MD Eastern Shore experiencing AT&T cell phone outage; AT&T attributes issue to fiber cut

Officials say that the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland is experiencing an AT&T cell phone outage on Tuesday.
According to Somerset County Emergency Services, the County along with the entire Eastern Shore of Maryland, is experiencing AT&T cell phone outages, people with AT&t cell service may not be able to call 911 in an emergency.
Somerset County Emergency Services can still receive 911 calls from other cell phone providers (Verizon, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.) and from landline home phones. If you have a medical condition that may require you to call 911, and you have an AT&T cell phone, but no landline, it it recommended that you stay with someone who is able to call 911.
Go to a friend or family member with working service, or have someone stay with you who has a working cell phone with a provider other than AT&T. At this time, AT&T is working on the issue, but it is unclear when service will be fully restored.
People in Wicomico County are urged to use another cell device or landline to call 911 or Wicomico County's emergency number: 410-749-4141.
An AT&T spokesperson says, "We are aware of an issue affecting wireless services for some customers in the eastern shore area of Maryland. Technicians are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue."
The spokesperson also says, "Due to a fiber cut in our local service provider’s network, some customers in the eastern shore area of Maryland may be experiencing issues with their wireless services. Technicians are working as quickly as possible to resolve the issue."
