Mayor Rick Meehan releases statement regarding Atlantic Avenue Dumser’s

Will it stay, or will it go? That has been the question surrounding Dumser's Dairyland lately.
The popular ice cream shop's location on the Inlet Lot in Ocean City might be vacated or torn down due to issues regarding the property that the business sits on.
For those worried about the future of the Atlantic Avenue Dumser's, a recent statement from an Ocean City official might offer some temporary relief.
Mayor Rick Meehan said the Atlantic Avenue Dumser's will not be vacated or torn down any time soon. He told 47ABC, "It's gonna be some time in 2018. Probably not until the late summer fall of 2018, so things can continue to go on as they have."
Back in September, a judge ruled that the Rapoport heirs would be forced to vacate the property by October 31st.
Ocean City Mayor Rick Meehan recently released a statement saying he would not require the Rapoport heirs to vacate or demolish the Atlantic Avenue property until a formal decision is made on their appeal case.
Mayor Meehan said, "We agreed with her request to stay the judges orders so no one has to leave the property, the property doesn't have to be torn down. All of that can stay until she has her day in court and the court of special appeals makes their final decision."
Ocean City visitors said they would be devastated to ever see the popular ice cream shop go.
Doris Young, an Ocean City local, said, "I think people would really miss it! I think that you know, they come down here with their grandchildren their children, everybody wants an ice cream cone when they're on the boardwalk!"
Some are already preparing themselves for the worst. Young said, "And like we keep saying in fact my sister even said you better take a picture because it might not be here next year!"
Ocean City officials said, however, they are just trying to do what they believe is right.
Mayor Meehan said, "We just want to do what we think is the right thing to do for the tax payers and the public and that is to make sure that since that lease has expired that any revenues that's now associated with that property, are returned to the tax payers of Ocean City"
We will continue to follow this case as it moves through the appeal process and update you as soon as a decision is made.
