Local urges community to join in support of Vegas

The Las Vegas community continues to heal following the worst mass shooting in American history. In Salisbury Thursday evening, one Millsboro resident was doing his part to rally Delmarva and lift up the families affected by the tragedy.
Richard Pope hoped to gather the community together to make cards for those affected by the tragedy.
"It's just about, hey, we're people who are part of a broken, hurting country and we want to come together."
At the water fountain in Salisbury Park, community members came by and wrote cards to be distributed to those either in hospitals or to the first responders.
Salisbury resident Amber Green says she wanted to convey a simple message to those affected in Las Vegas.
"To show them we are here. It doesn't really matter what my background is or what my affiliation is, just know that I am here, and I pray for you, I love you and we're in this together and we're going to get though it."
Pope messaged poet Vicente Hernandez through Facebook to offer words through poetry. He says the emotions of all of the recent events hit him this week.
"All of the emotions, like we've just been in a tough time now. A lot of deaths and a lot of rumors of wars and there's so much going on that's really tugging on the heartstrings of the world, which is more reason we should come together."
It's an emotional and politically charged time, a time Richard says needs to be put into perspective.
"What needs to be talked about right now is, hey, there's a little boy who's not going to see his mom again, there's a kid who's going to ask where's coach, there's people who are going to have to look at an empty desk in their office and say that person is gone."
The hope is that acts like this can begin the healing and bring Americans together in a divisive atmosphere.
"I feel like this is also the beginning, like we need to come together more as a nation, as a people to stop things like this from happening," said Hernandez.
"I believe that when we come together in the spirit of just love, there's no room for hate and I think that's the only way we will see improvement," said Pope.
