Community helping family struck by childhood cancer

It's every family's worst nightmare, finding out your infant has cancer. For one local mother, that nightmare has become reality, but she says the community is coming to her aid, and Wednesday, she received a gift that can make all the difference in her son's battle.

Denise Barazda is doing everything she can for her eight month old baby boy, Kamdyn, who has been diagnosed with a muscular cancer, stage 3 or 4. So Mike, her brother, reached out for help.
"Bills were racking up, they really had nowhere else to go, so he reached out to me for help from Pohanka and our community," said William Toadvine with Cars Made Easy.
Kamdyn is looking at 43 weeks of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, once, three or even five times a week. So Denise has set up a go-fund-me page to help save her little boy, called "Kamdyn's Courageous Battle."
"I'm just trying to get help with medical expenses and with everything with bills," said Denise Barazda, Kamdyn's mother. "I have the Ronald McDonald House, that's going to help us out with things, they can help us out with, but this is mainly for bills and things that we need because we're going to be in D.C. until he is released from the hospital, which were not even sure when that is going to be yet."
Kamdyn will be receiving treatment at Children's National Medical Center in Washington, D.C., a three hour drive one way. An incredible hardship for Denise, who did not have a vehicle.
The 2004 Honda Odyssey is perfect for the family of five to make the drive in comfort, essential for Kamdyn's battle.
"It's giving them a chance really, because when you live in Salisbury, you're at least three hours away from any sort of major cancer treatment, you have D.C. and you have Baltimore," said Katherine Hairsine, Digital Marketing Manager with Pohanka. 'So we're giving them an opportunity to get to and from the treatments their son inevitably needs."
Denise says she will keep folks updated through Kamdyn's journey.
