Worcester County could be home to a new sports complex
It looks like Worcester County may be getting a lot more sports friendly since the county is looking into owning and operating up to eight soccer fields.
On Tuesday the Worcester County Commissioners voted 5-2 to hear plans for a sportsplex that one study says could be economically beneficial to the area.
Although there is no set agreement that it will be built, they are moving along seeking out land that could be used for the soccer fields.
"I think the idea was suggested that parents have to travel for sports. They take their kids to various destinations for sports that they aren't always happy about going to, but they can have a 'playcation' at Ocean City or at the beach in Worcester County that would entice them to come here and stay," explains Merry Mears, Worcester County's Director for Economic Development.
The county tells us this all came about after first looking into a hockey stadium, but the study came back that the proposed fields would be more feasible and help the economy year-round because of the ability to host tournaments.
