Two arrested after reportedly eating, throwing out drugs in Salisbury traffic stop

Two men were arrested, after authorities say they tried to hide drugs by eating it and throwing it out of a vehicle during a traffic stop, in Salisbury.

The Wicomico County Sheriff's Office says on Thursday, around 9:30 PM, a deputy pulled over a vehicle in the 800 block of Booth Street, in Salisbury. Thirty-six-year-old Jonathan Lewis, of Salisbury, was reportedly driving the vehicle at the time of the traffic stop.

According to the report, as the vehicle was slowing to a stop, the deputy saw that plastic baggies were being thrown from the front passenger's seat window by a man later identified as 50-year-old Gary Johnson, of Salisbury. The deputy apparently collected the baggies and noticed that they contained marijuana. The deputy then also noticed marijuana in Lewis's beard along with a ripped open baggie, which authorities say supported the theory that Lewis tried to hide the marijuana by eating it.

According to law enforcement, the amount of marijuana recovered exceeded 10 grams. Both Johnson and Lewis were arrested and charged with possession of marijuana, possession of drug paraphernalia, littering, and concealment of physical evidence.

Johnson is currently being held on a $1,000 bond at the Wicomico County Detention Center. Lewis is also being held at the Wicomico County Detention Center on a $5,000 bond.
