SU Poli Sci professor breaks down the war of words between N. Korea and the U.S.

The war of the words between North Korea and the United States has become a hot topic.

North Korean Foreign Minister says President Donald Trump delcared war in a tweet over the weekend.

He claims North Korea has the right to shoot down U.S. planes, even if they're not in North Korean airspace.

Because local matters, 47 ABC spoke to a Salisbury University Professor, Dr. Taehyun Nam to break down what's really going on.

Dr. Nam says that he can’t predict the future but he does not believe a war will happen because it will be a loss for North Korea and Kim Jong Un.

Dr. Nam says, "From that perspective, he doesn't really want to engage a war because he has so much to lose because he's not irrational, he's not really stupid, he knows very well."

He also reiterates that North Korea having a hydrogen bomb is only a theory. He adds North Korea has been threatening South Korea and the United States for quite a long time, but they never have actually attacked American soil.

"I understand the anxiety that people could have it's totally legitimate given what he's saying but it's not going to happen knowing the history of the peninsula," Dr. Nam tells 47 ABC.
