Steps to become bus driver

If you are looking to become a driver with the district, here are the steps to take to make that happen.

Prospective drivers must take a two-day class put on by the Delaware Department of Education.

Drivers must also pass a passenger endorsement test, school bus test and air brake test to obtain a class B license permit through the DMV.

Drivers then work with certified school bus driver trainers to pass a road test and get their 'S' endorsement.

Finally, drivers are required to pass preemployment drug test, go through the child protection registry and a school bus driver background check on top of turning in their driving history, passing a physical and signing a criminal history avadavit.

Tyler Bryan, Transportation Systems Analyst, says drivers are a very valuable asset to its district.

"They're very valuable.  We cannot get our kids to school without them.  It's what we rely on and what keeps education rolling in the school district because if it wasn't for them we wouldn't be able to get the kids to school each day."

If you are interested in getting the process started to become a driver with Indian River School District you can call their transportation office at 302.436.1000.
