Police: Suspect sought in Georgetown robbery attempt and carjacking

Police are searching for a suspect, who they say is responsible for an attempted robbery and carjacking, in Sussex County.

The Georgetown Police Department says on Tuesday,  around 5:30 PM, they responded to the area of County Bank for a report of an attempted robbery, in Georgetown. Once on scene, officers learned that the suspect threatened a person with a box cutter, and then forced the victim to attempt to withdraw money form the ATM. According to the report, after making several attempts to get money from the ATM, the suspect then fled on foot.

Later that day, around 6:30 PM, Georgetown Police say they responded to the area of North Race Street for a reported carjacking. After further investigation, officers learned that a woman and two teens were sitting in a parked car, when the suspect entered the driver's side door of the vehicle. According to the report, the suspect then began to drive the vehicle on Race Street, traveling four to five blocks before exiting the vehicle and fleeing on foot.

Authorities describe the male suspect as having an average build, wearing a dark hooded sweatshirt, baseball cap, and jeans.
