New foundation aims to help Wicomico schools

The Greater Salisbury Committee has teamed up with the Salisbury Area Chamber of Commerce to create a new foundation to help improve the Wicomico Schools system.

The foundation aims to encourage the business community to come together and embrace education as a priority.

The Greater Salisbury Committee believes that if you get the business community rallying behind the public school system, it can only help our schools.

The committee has been working on the project for almost a year.

They said they got the idea for a foundation from one of Wicomico County School District’s neighbors, the Worcester County Public Schools.

They said they are already working to get the foundation rolling.

Mike Dunn, the CEO and President of the Greater Salisbury Committee, said, “This foundation is going to be meeting again in the next month and we’re going to get the work and we’re going to do the work and figure out where we want to move forward and what fundraising activities, what initiatives we’re going to try to embrace.”

Dunn said they are hoping to pick a good first initiative in order to set the table well for the foundation’s future goals.
