New electric busses coming to Delaware

Delaware will soon be adding ten new electric busses thanks to a $1 million dollar grant from the Federal Transit Administration.

Two of the busses will be heading to Sussex County and the other eight will be heading to New Castle County.

The busses have a range of up to 250 miles on a single charge, and they charge in just five to eight minutes.

Last summer the Delaware Transit Corporation (DTC) received a $2 million dollar grant for six electric busses for Dover as well as for related infrastructure costs.

The CEO of DTC believes customers will enjoy the new, environmentally friendly busses. He said, “They’re really excited about getting on them. They’re excited about the technology and the fact that these busses can move around in a clean and efficient way, so we think our customers will be excited about them as well.”

The Dover busses will be operational next summer. The New Castle and Sussex County busses will be operational in the summer of 2019.

By the summer of 2019, there will be sixteen electric busses operating throughout Delaware.
