MD State Trooper Shooting

A Maryland State Trooper is on administrative leave following a shooting this morning.

Maryland State Police say the leave is standard anytime an officer fires his weapon.

According to investigators the incident in question happened last night along Route 12.

Authorities say a trooper was on routine patrol when a stolen SUV swerved over in his direction.

Turns out that SUV was being driven by two Salisbury teens who ran when the officer tried to stop them.

MSP spokesperson, Elena Russo, says the car chase morphed into a foot chase.

"A pursuit ensued pulling the trooper into a residential area  on Washington Street when the two occupants of this vehicle bailed out of the car and started running. "

State Police say that the vehicle had been stolen a few days before from a woman who left her keys inside.

They also tell us that the trooper allegedly only shot after one of the teens reached for his waistband.

The pair of suspects are now in police custody and are facing several charges in connection with the chase.
