Man charged with third DUI after reported traffic violation in Rehoboth Beach

Antonio Alfaro, 35, of Georgetown

A Georgetown man is facing his third DUI charge, after police say he committed a traffic violation, in Rehoboth Beach.

The Rehoboth Beach Police Department says on Monday, around 8:30 PM, officers responded to a home on  Sixth Street for a repot of a verbal altercation. Once on scene, officers noticed one of the individuals involved, 35-year-old Antonio Alfaro, of Georgetown, who agreed to leave the home. Due to his level of intoxication, Alfaro was reportedly advised not to drive a vehicle, and police transported him to another location to meet his ride.

According to the report, a short time later, a officer noticed that Alfaro had returned to Sixth Street and went inside a red Jeep Cherokee, driving  away without the headlights being lit. After recognizing Alfaro from the previous complaint, the officer then apparently pulled the vehicle over as it exited Rehoboth Avenue on to State Route 1. During the traffic stop, police say that Alfaro continued to show signs of intoxication. Authorities report that standardized roadside sobriety test were issued, and Alfaro was taken into custody and transported to Beebe Healthcare for further analysis.

According to Rehoboth Beach PD, after further investigation, police learned that the Jeep Aflaro was driving belonged to another person involved in the original complaint on Sixth Street. Police say the owner of the vehicle did not give Alfaro permission to take the car.

Alfaro was arrested and charged with one count of felony third offense driving a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, one count of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, one count of failure to have lights on when required, and one count of driving with an expired license. He was later released on $3,210 unsecured bail to a sober co-signer.
