Electric companies issue beat the peak alerts

Because of warmer than normal temperatures, Choptank Electric, Delaware Electric and A&N Electric Co-operative are issuing beat the peak alerts on Tuesday.
According to all three companies, the alerts are being issued from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM. Officials say that home cooling systems use the most electricity in the home during these hours and in this hot weather. They ask that residents turn up their thermostats three degrees.
Other large consumers of electricity reportedly include major appliances such as dishwashers, washing machines, clothes dryers and water heaters.
By delaying the use of unnecessary lighting and appliances, by grilling outside instead of using the oven or stove top, by closing blinds or curtains to cut the amount of sunlight coming into your home and by adjusting your thermostat up three degrees on Tuesday between 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM, residents can save energy resources, avoid high cost energy and help the environment.
The companies are thanking their members for their voluntary effort in participating in Beat the Peak. For information on beat the peak, residents can visit this website.
