A record-breaking $145,000 was raised at the annual Dog-Dash race in Milton on Sunday for the Delaware Nature Conservancy.

The race is hosted by a local favorite, the Dogfish Head Brewery.

Race organizers called the event, “running for nature.”

They said about 2,700 hundreds made it out to Sunday’s event, and many of those runners stuck around Milton on Sunday to celebrate.

The Delaware Nature Conservancy has several nature preserves throughout the state and many of the preserves feature trails with public access.

The Delaware Nature Conservancy said the annual Dog Dash event is critical for them. Richie Jones, a worker for DNC said, “It represents something like five to ten percent of our budget, it’s huge!”

That’s why race organizers are already encouraging people to sign up for next year’s race. Mark Carter, the Race Coordinator, “We had about 22 states represented this year. A guy from Australia who joined us, so it sells out quick. So sign up early, usually early April, like April 1st, we typically open the race up then.”

Since 2007, the annual Dog Dash race has raised over $500,000 for the Delaware Nature Conservancy.
