BVSPCA takes in 10 Hurricane Irma dogs

Countless dogs and cats have been displaced by Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma this past month. That’s where our local shelters come in.

Over 100 of those displaced animals were flown into the New Castle Airport on Monday to be distributed across various shelters in Delaware.

Brandywine Valley SPCA in Georgetown took in ten of those animals.

The shelter is now encouraging animal lovers across Delmarva to come to their shelter in a few days to check out or possibly adopt some of their new residents.

Joanna, the Director of Operations at the New Castle branch of the SPCA, said, “Some of them will be available for adoption right away. Some are already altered, so we’ll be able to put them up as soon as tomorrow. Some still need to be spayed and neutered so we’ll actually, um, it will be a couple days, we’ll have a veterinarian evaluate them and then go ahead and spay and neuter them, so it will probably be within one to two days.

The Brandywine Valley SPCA said they are also accepting donations for their shelter.
