Activists Look to Get Historical Distinction to Save Dumser’s

The petition started just under a month ago to save a local favorite has garnered over 10-thousand signatures.

Community activists are still hoping the petition will pave the way for the building Dumser's is housed in to be made into a historical landmark.

The South Division location will be torn down if city leaders and building owners can't be reached by  the end of December.

On Tuesday, the Change.org petition was turned complete with the thousands  of signatures to city council.

It's the latest development in an on-going legal battle over the Nathan's building on Ocean City's boardwalk. V

Victoria Magin created the petition and wants to get more public support.

"The next steps here are we'd like to go national. We're going to continue the petition drive. And encouraging people to write and email city hall. A lot of our supporters are local but there are also a lot who are out of town not able to make the meeting, social media, email, phone calls. those are the best ways to have your voices heard."

Magin says her research shows getting a building designated as a historical landmark is a long process.

An appeal has been filed to overturn a judge's earlier ruling that would require the building to be vacated and demolished by the end of the year.
