Vaughn Prison Update

Its been about six months since the prison uprising and riot in Smyrna, Delaware claimed the life of a prison guard and still no charges have been filed.
A few months after the tragedy – Delaware Governor John Carney launched an independent investigation – and legislative changes were made – still no charges.
Today speaking exclusively with 47 ABC – the Governor talked about the changes being made at the James T Vaughn Correctional Facility and the investigation.
Carney says a new warden hired to lead the prison is already making changes. But says state officials are still struggling to find people to fill at least *two-hundred* prison guard vacancies. Carney says there's plenty of work to be done but he is trying to meet the prison's immediate needs.
"I'm frustrated that we haven't seen criminal charges yet. I've been focusing on the recommendations of our internal review committee that have identified changes that need to be made there."
Carney says a new contract has been reached with the guards' union and officials are working to improve the culture and morale at Vaughn.
