UPDATE: Victims identified in Georgetown double fatal car crash

Delaware State Police say that their Collision Reconstruction Team has identified the two people who were killed, on Friday, in a fatal Georgetown collision.

According to officials, 57-year-old George Hassett, of Seaford, and 76-year-old Katherine Chick, of Georgetown, were both killed in the crash.

Police say an investigation revealed that, around 1:12 PM, Hassett was driving a 2000 Oldsmobile Bravada westbound on US 9 (County Seat Highway) just east of the intersection of Tyndall Road. According to the report, the Oldsmobile crossed the double yellow line, and went into the eastbound lane of US 9, directly into the path of a 1994 Chrysler LeBaron driven by Chick. Officials say that Chick slightly swerved her vehicle to the right in an attempt to avoid the collision, but the vehicles crashed almost head on in the eastbound lane. Both drivers were apparently pronounced dead at the scene.

Police say both drivers were wearing seatbelts at the time of the crash. Authorities report that a 45-year-old woman, a passenger in the Oldsmobile, was also properly restrained. She was removed from the scene and transported to the Nanticoke Memorial Hospital with serious injuries.

Police say it is unknown if either driver was impaired at the time of the collision. This crash remains under investigation by the Delaware State Police.
