Traffic Alert: Closure of US 50 and US 13 Bypass in Salisbury

On Tuesday, traffic is being rerouted after a closure on the Bypass, in Salisbury.

The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration says on Tuesday, they closed the eastbound US 50 and US 13 Bypass at US 50 Business (Salisbury Boulevard). Officials say the closure is due to pavement damage and drainage erosion just prior to US 13 Business.

According to MDOT SHA, the right lane was already closed at the same place for a pipe repair. The westbound Salisbury Bypass is open and is not affected by the closure.

According to the report, drivers are being rerouted on US 50 Business through the City of Salisbury. Officials are retiming traffic signals on US 50 Business to provide additional time to through drivers.

Drivers planning to travel to the beach resorts are urged to plan additional travel time.

In reference to the closure, MDOT SHA District Engineer Jay Meredith says, "Significant rainfall last weekend created additional erosion under the road. For the safety of the traveling public, we closed both lanes, began immediate repairs and are detouring traffic."

47 ABC spoke with an MDOT official who says the closure is in effect until further notice.
