Tinus Announces Candidacy

The first official candidate for the Maryland Senate's 38th district seat has come forward.

Ed Tinus launched his campaign Monday night in Salisbury at the Wicomico County GOP Club meeting,  looking to unseat incumbent two-term Democratic Senator Jim Mathias.

If the name sounds familiar, that's because he has run before; just under a different party and for the United States Senate. Tinus– a Whaleyville resident, ran for U.S Senate twice back in 2012 and 2016, losing both times.

He has held no elected position before, but says he has done hired, contract and private work for elected officials all over Maryland.

Tinus also has not received any endorsements as of yet, but he says he will bring something to the table that he thinks no one else does.

"I'm offering to utilize our technology, our cell phone, our smart devices, so the voters can be engaged during the legislative process," Tinus said.

Now when asked as to why he switched parties, Tinus says its a strategic move because there are more Republican voters in the area and he says, "his platform does not fit the mold of any party."
