Salisbury taking part in Mayor’s Challenge

The City of Salisbury is moving forward in a national competition to win $5 million.
Mayor Jake Day announced today that the city has moved past the first round in the Bloomberg Philanthropies Mayor's Challenge.
The competition, put on by the former mayor of New York City Michael Bloomberg, is open to cities with a population of 30,000 or more and they must define a serious problem and craft a solution. Salisbury has identified theirs as early adolescent mental wellness and Day says if they do win the competition, they can increase care to catch these problems before they become more severe.
"What we want is to help transition to wellness, but the only way we're going to get there is through early identification, early intervention and treatment plans that help resolve these issues or make them manageable for people." Day said. "To give them the tools to manage, give parents the tools to manage and give these kids the tools to manage those issues for the rest of their life."
The final submission of Salisbury's application will occur in October and the winning cities will be announced and awarded up to $5 million to implement their ideas in October of 2018.
