Poor Girls Open kicks off

The annual Poor Girls Open has returned to Ocean City.
The event was started by Captain Steve Harman.
The tournament was originally created to allow women to compete in a fishing tournament, without breaking the bank.
But now, the tournament, which takes place at the Bahia Marina, has a more special significance.
The tournament’s proceeds all go towards breast cancer research.
Last year alone, the tournament raised over $100,000.
They are expecting to raise even more this year.
Adam Horner, the Marina Manager, said, “It looks like it might be a record payout this year. I think it’s about $218,000 dollars. We raise a lot of money for breast cancer. We do 50-50’s, silent auctions, all kinds of raffles, just raising money.”
Horner said you don’t actually have to be in the tournament to get involved.
You can go to the Bahia Marina and enjoy those raffles and silent auctions or you can go to watch the women weigh-in their fish.
Those weigh-in’s occur between 4 and 7:30pm every day.
