Perdue Foundation gives 10k for Special Olympics Delaware

A local business doubles their support for Special Olympics Delaware, in Harrington.

The Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation says they awarded $10,000 to Special Olympics Delaware, on Thursday. A check presentation ceremony was held at the Delaware State Fairgrounds, in Harrington. The Foundation has supported Special Olympics Delaware for the past five years, acting as a festival sponsor at the annual Special Olympics Truck Convoy. Previously, the funds provided lunch and entertainment for hundreds of truck drivers, supporters, and Special Olympics families following convoy drive through scenic Sussex County in support of Special Olympics.

According to Special Olympics Delaware, their mission is to provide year-round sports training and athletic competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for 4,200 children and adults with intellectual disabilities, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes and the community. Kim Nechay, Executive Director of the Perdue Foundation, says "Special Olympics Delaware, the athletes and their families hold a special place in our hearts at Perdue. We're proud to continue and expand our support for the Truck Convoy through the Foundation. Each year, our drivers look forward to participating in this event and seeing the smiles of the athletes as they join them for a ride in their big rigs. It is an honor to be a part of a day that brings joy to so many and helps advance the cause of such a wonderful organization."

The Franklin P. and Arthur W. Perdue Foundation strives to strengthen the communities where Perdue Farms associates live and work by focusing its efforts on education, agriculture, the environment, health and social services, and fighting hunger and poverty. By doubling their support this year to $10,000, the Foundation will be an official sponsor of the event along with FedEx Ground and Walmart.
