A man on a bicycle was injured, after police say he was hit by a jeep, in Georgetown.
Delaware State Police says, on Sunday, just before 6:00 AM, they responded the area of Lewes-Georgetown Highway (US 9), east of Gravel Hill Road, for a collision involving a jeep and a bicycle.
According to the report, a 59-year-old Lewes man was driving a 2005 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound on US 9, just east of Kits Burow Court, while 35-year-old David Clark, of Georgetown, was riding a bicycle westbound in the travel, just ahead of the jeep. Troopers say that the driver of the jeep was unable to see the bicycle in time because of to the low light, and struck the back of the bicycle with the front bumper. Authorities say that Clark was thrown up on to the front of the SUV before landing in the roadway. DSP says the driver of the jeep pulled over to the westbound shoulder immediately after the collision.
Clark was transported by EMS to Beebe Healthcare, where he was admitted in serious but stable condition. Officials say that Clark, who was not wearing a helmet and was wearing dark colored clothing, was cited for failure to stay to the right of the roadway while operating a bicycle.
According to the report, the driver of the jeep was wearing a seatbelt and was uninjured. Delaware State Police say that US 9 between Gravel Hill Road and Prettyman Road was close for approximately two and a half hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
