Monday Memo – August 14, 2017
MONDAY MEMO
TO: ALL STAFF
FROM: KATHLEEN
DATE: 14 AUGUST 2017
A REMINDER: This is the next to last of the every-other-week Monday Memos for this summer. We will all be back on schedule (for a while) the week after Labor Day. Every other week, I believe, is not timely enough for these memos and I thank you for your patience as we get through this very busy summer for me.
HOW ARE YOUR PHOTOGRAPHY SKILLS?
Amateur and professional photographers have until Friday, 1 September, to submit photos of the lifestyle, beauty and assets in Wicomico County for Wicomico County Tourism’s 2017 Photo Contest. Nature, cultural attractions, wineries, breweries, festivals, events and historical sites are just some of the photo opportunities the County has to offer. Creativity is welcome. There will be first, second and third place winners. Winners will receive cash prizes. Go to the Wicomico County Tourism website and click on 2017 Photo Contest for details on how to enter. I’d love to have someone from 47ABC nail it!! Good luck.
NIELSEN IS CHANGING ITS METHODOLOGY
• Nielsen has announced that our market is in the first wave of the integration of Return Path Data along with Code Reader samples for Diary Markets. Simply put, this is a migration to electronic measurement. We are expected to begin with this impact data in November, with an anticipated release scheduled for February 2018. The goal, of course, is more accurate data reporting. I’m looking forward to seeing the results.
THE FCC IS GROWING UP!
• The FCC is no longer going to require us to keep letters from the public in a file for public inspection. I would still like to see anything that you receive about the operations of our Stations and whether or not you responded to the viewer. These letters often serve as opportunities for improvement for us as well as an opportunity to be the responsive station with good customer service. I’ll be glad to continue answering any of the tougher viewer questions or you can so advise if you have already replied. Thanks to all of you who have forwarded correspondence to me over the years and I’m sure you appreciate the fact that there is now one less regulation in the FCC portfolio!
OUT IN THE COMMUNITY
• Thursday through the weekend is the Lacrosse Classic in Ocean City
• Friday is Third Friday on the Salisbury Plaza
• The Wicomico County Fair at Winterplace Park is also this weekend. You might want to check it out. Perhaps you will find the perfect shot to enter in the photography contest!
• Monday, 21 August, will be the Great American Eclipse. Kuhn’s has already run out of glasses and, if you don’t already have a pair, I encourage you to do so. If you want to photograph the eclipse, keep in mind that your camera also requires a special lens. Keep in mind that your iPhone was not designed to photograph these phenomena and, most likely, you will need to use a telephoto lens for quality. Check with the engineers if you have questions or concerns.
CANCER CHARITY DECLARED A SCAM:
• Maryland Attorney General Frosh announced a Cease and Desist Order against We Can Cer-Vive and its president and founder, Mia Wright. The order follows an investigation that revealed multiple violations of the MD Solicitations Act, including using false and misleading advertising materials in connections with a solicitation and failing to register with the Secretary of State before soliciting. DO NOT SUPPORT THIS CAUSE!
FREE STUFF!

And the winners of the Tawes glasses are:
Jaisol Martinez Ortiz, Shamara Smith, Chantel Carroll, Ben Warrington, Charles Roberts, Shane Johnson, Trevor Taylor, Jean Vivola, Leanne Guyette, Jessica Simpson, Drew Prouse, Jaime Roberts, Asia Johnson, Justina Coronel, Lindsy Adkins and Shawn Conaway.
As it turns out, we still have 8 glasses left. If you were a winner and didn’t pick yours up, I suggest you get a move on! If you would like some of the leftovers, see Tamara Horn. Remaining glasses will be distributed on a first come/first serve (no pun) basis.
