Local 5K held to raise funds, awareness for Alzheimer’s

Organizers of the Athletes Against Alzheimer's 5K run/walk were hoping the third time would be the charm, as in the third annual race to help fight the disease.
The hope was the reach the $70,000 mark in funds raised. The 5K benefits the Alzheimer's Association Delaware Valley Chapter.
The event raised $16,000 two years ago, and $25,000 last year.
Founder Michael Loftus lost his father to the disease three years ago, and wants to raise awareness of how prevalent the disease is becoming.
"Alzheimer's is up 89 percent since 2000. So it is, with all of the baby boomers, it unfortunately is growing. So it is real important that we raise money for a cure, and of course awareness as well."
According to the Alzheimer’s Association website, Alzheimer’s is a type of dementia that causes problems with memory, thinking and behavior; the life-interfering symptoms worsen over time and there is no cure.
