Ireton Announces Candidacy

Salisbury, Md.-  Salisbury's former mayor is running for Wicomico County Clerk of Court.

Today, Jim Ireton announced his candidacy to replace longtime Clerk Mark Bowen.

Ireton who currently serves on the city council says he is best suited because of his experience as mayor.

He served the city in that position from 2009-2015 and managed a budget of $50 million and 400 plus employees.

Ireton says he has big shoes to fill, but he has a passion for what he's running for.

"Another important reason why I am running for the Clerk of Court is because there is a sacred trust that the citizens of this county have with the courthouse and the documents that are there," he said. "You need to have an advocate for those documents to protect them at all times and that's why I'm doing this,"

Most recently Ireton ran and lost in his bid to replace Congressman Andy Harris as a representative for the first district.
