Human Trafficking Awareness Forum

It's a concern for not only the entire country, but also right here on the Eastern Shore.
Human trafficking is a $32 billion dollars a year industry but some local activists are hoping to educate the public and stop this disturbing trend in its tracks.
A group of local non-profits are holding a Human Trafficking and Exploitation forum in Newport Delaware on September 9th.
The forum will feature speakers from the Delaware Court system, State Police and a video presentation.
One organizer, Yolanda Schlabach, says she hopes to make more people aware of this growing issue.
"It's really important that people understand that this is not just an international or global issue that this is an issue domestically in the United States. It also happens in Delaware along with the other 49 states. And often people don't really know what trafficking looks like or they may confuse it with human smuggling."
The forum will be held at the Peniel United Methodist Church in Newport.
