Governor Carney Signs Bill to Form Drug-Fighting Committee

Governor John Carney signed a bill today meant to help the fight against the opioid crisis.
The legislation will pave the way for a special committee whose primary goal will be to find ways to combat the growing drug problem in the region.
The group will be called the Addiction Action Committee and will be made up of appointees, lawmakers and health professionals.
Governor Carney says the newly-created committee will go a long way to fight this health crisis.
"This is a way of taking action to address the prevention aspect of it, the treatment aspect of it to really save lives from opioids and generally mental health issues."
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, over the last 16 years — over 160-thousand people have died from opioid overdoses in the United States.
