The Chesapeake Bay Balloon and Wine Festival has fired up for it’s sixth year.

Last year, the festival drew a crowd of 10,000 people.

This year, almost 200,000 on Facebook have said they are interested in attending.

Paul Spies, co-owner of Triple Creek Winery and a Festival Organizer, said, “You have wine, live music, good weather, I mean what could be better?”

The festival in Cordova draws thousands from both near and far to enjoy all that the festival has to offer.

“It’s worth the trip out. Great day for the kids and the family. A lot to do, good bands, petting zoo, plenty to eat as you can see, it’s just a good time,” said Tommy Rhodes, a festival attendee.

For first time festival attendee Kirk Patton, the festival served as a perfect way to celebrate a special day.

“It’s my birthday today, so they said what about doing this for dads birthday? So they’re all coming in tomorrow. They’re working today, but my wife and I came out today and are enjoying the food and getting ready for the balloons to get fired up here,” he said.

The festival also has a special purpose. It serves as a fundraiser for the local community.

“All of our parking proceeds go to the paramedics foundation, so that’s how we got to where we are standing today,” said Spies. “It’s each of those organizations largest fundraiser of the year, based off the balloon festival, so it’s pretty neat getting everyone involved.

The festival is something Triple Creek Winery would like to expand on in the future. The hope is they can keep it a family oriented event, which can benefit the whole community.

If you are interested in attending the festival, tickets are still available for Saturday. You can find those tickets here
