Businesses receive grants to create more jobs in Delaware

Three businesses were voted to receive grants to create more jobs in Delaware.

According to officials, the Delaware Council on Development Finance recommended grants to Sallie Mae, Prelude Therapeutics and General Refrigeration Company.

Sallie Mae received $2.16 million to create 285 new positions in northern Delaware bringing its total employment in New Castle to more than 1,000. The company is also negotiating to lease space at the Churchman's Corporate Center off of D.E. 273. This comes after H.S.B.C announced that it would be moving employees out of its office at the same location.

General Refrigeration received a $433,500 grant to expand into a new 49,000 square foot building south of Laurel. The grant will reportedly provide up to $195,000 for 30 new, full-time positions and $238,500 for capital expenditures related to investing in and outfitting the new facility.

Lastly, Prelude Therapeutics was recommended a performance based grant package to grow to around 30 staff and to move to a new and larger location in Delaware.
