Salisbury Fire Dept. places road markers to locate fire hydrants

In Salisbury, in the coming weeks you may notice some new markers on the roadways.

“We've been saturating our fire district with these reflective hockey pucks is what we call them. We put them in the street where fire hydrants are located so we can better access them specifically at night time, they're actually pretty easy to see in the day as well."

Salisbury Fire Capt. James Jester tells 47 ABC one of their firefighters had the idea to start placing these blue translucent markers throughout the city to help the firemen locate fire hydrants in the area.

“If the call is near the fire department, me riding in the front seat as an officer I’ve got less time to actually see where that hydrant is by looking at computer screen. This would be a whole lot easier for myself as well as the driver operator to be able to spot these from a distance of which is the closest to the fire scene,” explains Capt. Jester.

In an emergency time is valuable, so these new blue markers can help save lives and can also serve as a reminder for drivers not to park next to a hydrant.
